Transforming Manufacturing Analytics in Business Central: New Updates for 2025

Manufacturing is a vital part of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, serving as a core module that supports production planning, inventory management, capacity tracking, and much more. As manufacturers increasingly rely on data to guide operations and decision-making, Microsoft continues to evolve Business Central’s capabilities to keep pace. With the 2025 Release Wave 1, Business Central introduces a major overhaul of its manufacturing analytics and reporting tools—and it’s one of the most impactful updates in recent memory.

A Modern Vision for Manufacturing Reporting

This update is part of a larger vision to modernize and simplify manufacturing analytics by:

  • Making reports easier to customize using Excel and Word layouts
  • Retiring legacy RDL (Report Definition Language) reports
  • Introducing entirely new reports that consolidate and expand capabilities
  • Enhancing discoverability with a new Manufacturing Analytics landing page

These changes aim to empower users with flexible, intuitive tools for analyzing key metrics—without the need for developer tools or custom code. Check out what’s new below!

✨ Updated Legacy Reports

Six core manufacturing reports have been refreshed with new layouts:

  • Production Order Statistics
  • Capacity Task List
  • Subcontractor Dispatch List
  • Top-Level Use
  • Timeline
  • Production Order VIP

🆕 New Reports

Two new Excel-based reports have replaced several outdated options:

  1. Production Cost Shares Report
    • Replaces four older reports including BOM Cost Share and Quantity Explosion
    • Includes multiple tabs for different analysis levels and personas
    • Offers both printable and interactive versions
  2. Work/Machine Center Load Report
    • Replaces legacy load reports
    • Includes analysis and printable worksheets for easy workload planning

👋 Say Goodbye to These Legacy Reports

As part of this modernization effort, over 70 outdated reports will be deprecated in future releases. Microsoft is providing clear documentation and advanced notice so teams can prepare for the transition. You can view the full list on the Deprecated Features page.

📈 Discover More with Power BI

While these new built-in reports are powerful, some businesses require more advanced or specialized reporting capabilities.
